Lesson 3 – Sewing Equipment
Objective: Students will be able to identify, describe and demonstrate the function of basic sewing equipment.
Standard: Textiles 2.1 Recognize textile production terminology
Materials: Sewing stations handout, station signs, equipment for stations, Today’s Teen text book
Time: 45 minutes
Introduction: (5 minutes)
*Tell me one thing you learned yesterday.
*Ask “Who has been to ITech class? Art? Do you use special tools in those classes? What are some examples?” Just like ITech and Art classes, FACS requires some specific sets of tools for different tasks.
Key Idea: (5 minutes)
*Outline the 5 classifications of sewing tools
Activity: (30 minutes)
*Students will draw a cards (pair sets) to be randomly assigned into groups. With their partner, using collaboration/communication, written descriptions and physical visual examples, pairs will move from station to station and answer the questions.
Closure and Assessment: (5 minutes)
Exit ticket – What is one new thing you learned to day? What is one question you have?
Formal assessment – accuracy and completion of assignment
